DESCRIPTION: EPW - A.P. Walsh, London, marked on dial for retailer Samuel Hammond & Co. of New York, fusee pocket chronometer with winding indicator, 49mm, 18K gold OF original case bearing London hallmarks for 1858, "F M" marking in cameo for casemaker Frederick Samuel Matthews, white enamel SS dial, KWKS, fully capped free-sprung spring detent chronometer escapement with helical hairspring, diamond endstone, 14-15J, gilt mvt, s#263 with matching serial number within case and on dial. Watch comes with a 14-inch 14K gold chain with T-bar that is connected to a 14K gold Breguet style ratcheting key by a smaller 4-inch gold-filled chain. Watch also comes with a locking fitted wooden box as well as a photocopied sheet showing its purchase at a 1980 Christie's auction. CONDITION: Mvt: GRO, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, plates with strong gilt tone and some mild ultra-fine scratch striations; dial with some hls around lower portion of seconds-register; excellent hands; case shows little wear, no dents or dings, good engine turning detail to majority of rear but with reduction and portions of loss to shoulders, cuvette with a few small scratches around winding aperture; tight bow; good glass crystal with only a very small scratch toward left side; chain is in good condition; box is excellent with good lock function.
